PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT ACTIVITIES
Some very exciting activities
will be going on this year at OCS to improve student learning. The teaching
staff and I will be attending professional development activities through
the Southern Indiana Education Center and also the Southwest Indiana Network
for Education (SINE). Kindergarten-2nd grade teachers will be
working on implementing Time to Teach and DIBLES. Teachers in 3rd,
4th and 5th are meeting by grade level and continuing
training on working with high ability student, 1-8 teachers will continue
using strategies on Reading in the Content Areas and I plan on attending the
annual Indiana Association of School Principals fall conference to learn
about new or updated administrative ideas and strategies. Owensville School
is also continuing the Student Success Program (SSP).
As your child goes
through Owensville School you will also notice that he/she will do a lot of
writing. One of our school goals is to incorporate writing into every
subject at every grade level. Owensville School sees writing as one of the
most important communication skills that every student will need throughout
their life. Writing also helps develop critical thinking skills in students,
a valuable tool for higher education and future employment.
In the area of technology
each classroom has two student computers and a teacher computer that is
connected to the building network. The teacher computer is connected to a
DLP projector with a wireless mouse/tablet that allows for teachers to work
throughout their class on group projects with the class. Students use the
Internet to research subject area topics as well as write pen pal letters
with the word processor to be sent outside the corporation. Students will
continue to learn keyboarding skills using type to learn software while
learning skills in word and excel.
The corporation has also
installed Instant Messenger. This allows each school or the corporation to
automatically call parents to notify them of school emergencies do to
weather or other sudden changes in the school day.
Through these improvement
efforts and your continued support, we will strive to improve the
educational opportunities we provide the students of Owensville Community
School.
GOALS
Owensville Community
School will continue to work on the goals set in the school improvement plan
to be achieved by the end of the 2011 school year.
Goal 1. Ninety percent of the students
in grades 3, 6, and 8 will demonstrate an eighty percent mastery level
on the final local grade level SSP mini-assessment in reading comprehension
by the end of the 2011 school year.
Goal 2. Ninety-percent of the students
in grades 3, 6, and 8 will demonstrate an eighty-percent mastery level on
the local grade level final SSP mini-assessment in number sense and
computation by the end of the 2011 school year.
These are very challenging goals for
our school to achieve, but by staff members using the Student Success
Process (SSP) and attending professional development activities, we are
working to reach these goals.
